Invest York Road updates - Oct. 2022

On a monthly basis, we post a high-level summary of work that has happened with Invest York Road (IYR) over the course of the previous month so that community members can stay informed about the progress being made.

Here are updates for the month of October:

• IYR was awarded a $150,000 grant from the state of Maryland's Baltimore Regional Neighborhood Initiative (BRNI). These funds will form the foundation of Invest York Road's "revolving purchase fund" to facilitate property purchase.
• As a part of the effort to advance the revolving purchase fund, IYR participated in T. Rowe Price's skillCONNECT program to receive strategic support from industry experts and professionals.
• IYR met with consultants to strategize a build out of the organization's accounting and bookkeeping plan for the new non-profit organization we are building.
• The facilitators who run IYR's free financial and investment education program began revising the curriculum for the program's various modules. Classes are continuing in November, split between in-person and virtual offerings.
• IYR volunteers did community outreach at a Fall Fest event at the DeWees Recreation Center.
• Our work with commercial real estate professionals advanced, as we continue to revise our financial models for property acquisition and management.
• We applied for the Common Future Accelerator program and a grant from the Inclusive Capital Collective.
• Community info. sessions were scheduled for November, and we continue to engage and involve community members in moving IYR forward.
