INVEST YORK ROAD UPDATES - August 2025

On a monthly basis, we post a high-level summary of work that has happened with Invest York Road (IYR) over the course of the previous month so community members can stay informed about the progress being made.

Here are updates for the month of August:

IYR negotiated an extension agreement with the current lender on the property we are working on purchasing, in order to create more time to prepare for the project.
With the additional time secured, IYR is pursuing more capital for the property purchase and redevelopment.
Simultaneously, IYR has continued its work with a local architect and general contractor on the design plan for the property's renovation.

Here are updates for the month of July:

The Invest York Road Holding Company was established as a part of our organizational build out. This will be the entity that will receive community investment and purchases and hold IYR's portfolio of commercial properties. IYR published another one of its monthly newsletters. To see our latest edition and/or subscribe, check it out on our Substack page.
Our free community financial and investment education program is on summer break, but keep an eye on our schedule for classes resuming in September.

Here are updates for the month of June:

As IYR continues the march towards its first property acquisition, we convened our amazing advisors to consult on our capital strategy and give input and support. As always, they were incredibly helpful in moving the project forward.
IYR is working with close partners, the York Road Partnership (YRP) and the York Road Collaborative (the BID), to formalize our collaborative work and create a vehicle for coordinating work and sharing resources. Stay tuned for updates on the evolution of these efforts.
Our free community financial and investment education program is on summer break, but keep an eye on our schedule for classes resuming in September.

Here are updates for the month of May:

IYR held its first local house meeting, bringing together neighbors to learn about, discuss, and give feedback on the IYR model and current project plan. If you are interested in hosting a house meeting, please fill out this form.
As a part of our ongoing organizational development work, we have incorporated the Invest York Road Holding Company, which is the entity that will hold the portfolio of community-owned properties. If you are interested in learning more about how the IYR model works, check out this video explainer and read through our FAQ.
Working with our architect and general contractor, we have finalized the re-design of our first acquisition target at 5723 York Road. Sign up for our email list here to get the latest updates on this project and all of IYR's work.

Here are updates for the month of April:

One of our longest tenured funders, the Abell Foundation, awarded an operating grant to IYR for fiscal year 2025. Abell has been an exceptional partner in this work and a great collaborator. We are grateful for their ongoing support.
Our community engagement team continued to show up at events in and around York Road, including at the York Road Colorwave Fest.
Efforts to finalize the acquisition of IYR's first property are ongoing. Sign up for IYR's email list to get all the latest news on that front.

On a monthly basis, we post a high-level summary of work that has happened with Invest York Road (IYR) over the course of the previous month so community members can stay informed about the progress being made.

Here are updates for the month of March:

We continued our work to finalize the purchase of our first property, at 5723 York Road. See our newsletter post on the subject here.
As we move that process forward, we are also in negotiations with a prospective tenant for the space, which we will be announcing soon.
IYR has also been planning its community investment campaign, that will allow community members to purchase shares in IYR's real estate portfolio. Stay tuned for details on that coming soon.
Additionally, our team has been hard at work writing grants, building out internal systems, and marshaling the resources to prepare for the property redevelopment project, investment campaign, and all of the other work that lies ahead this year.

Here are updates for the month of February:

IYR continues the process of closing on the purchase of its first property. Several large grant applications were also submitted this month as a part of our ongoing capital raise for the renovation of the property.
IYR welcomed two new interns into the fold. These new additions to the team are focusing on our stakeholder mapping work and elevating our social media.
